Lesson Reflection:
For this lesson, students participated in a shared reading activity about fun things to do. As a class, we read through the story, highlighting sight words that we had learned as we went along. When finished, I taught a mini-lesson reviewing how our sight words can be used to construct sentences. We practiced making a few sample sentences as a class, then students were told to independently write in their journals about something fun they like to do. Afterward, students gathered back together to share their writing and give feedback to each other.

High Student Sample
"I like to play gorilla. I pretend to destroy things. I want to be the king of the world."
My high student sample shows that this student is on the right track to writing more complex sentences and stories. He is already adept at using sight words in his sentences and instead is concentrating more on decoding words and adding more details to his writing. Some things we pointed out for him to work on are his use of upper and lowercase letters appropriately and spacing his words more consistently.

Medium Student Sample
"I go to the water park."
My medium student sample shows where the majority of my students currently are in their writing. He is able to write one simple sentence on topic, but does not elaborate or use details. He does a good job using sight words in his writing and is starting to sound out words, identifying mostly initial and ending sounds. What we want to work on with him in the future is adding more details to his writing and using multiple sentences to tell a story. We will also continue to work on decoding, strengthening his beginning and final sounds while working more on identifying middle sounds.

Needs Improvement Student Sample
At first, this student had trouble telling me what she wrote/drew, but eventually she was able to tell me, "I like to throw the ball."
This student is an example of one of my students who lacks many fundamental writing skills, such as holding her pencil correctly and being able to copy or trace letters and words. In this example, she shows that she is now attempting to write letters/words on her own, but struggles with letter formation and lacks sight word knowledge. We are working on copying sentence starters provided to her, and then completing the sentence with the teacher's assistance. We are also concentrating on learning her sight words and showing how we can use them in her writing.
